As a company with multiple locations grows, it becomes harder and
harder to find data located on servers distributed throughout the
organization. Compounding the problem are employees who transfer
from one location to the other, or who travel and access their data
from different locations. Finally, when it comes time to migrate
from an old server to a new one, often there problems due to
renaming of the server - applications may break, or users become
confused about where the data has gone. You can use DFS to avoid or
minimize ALL of these problems with a little planning. I've worked
on several structures for doing this for some time, and think
you'll benefit greatly by using my ideas. The nice thing is, you
don't HAVE to start from scratch - you can put the ideas in place
and show them to users as a more convenient way to work, and they
will likely choose the new access methods.
